Always on the cutting edge, Herman Miller has launched a new product for the Fitbit Generation aiming to increase productivity right at your desk.
Created in collaboration with design entrepreneur Yves Behar, Live OS is a cloud platform that tracks how people make use of office space. It’s simple to use: attach an infrared sensor to the underside of your desk and Live OS will log when you sit and stand, come and go. All this data is logged onto a dashboard that companies can access.
Or download the app to let individual employees set goals their own goals for sitting and standing.
“This technology fits perfectly with Herman Miller’s Renew Sit-to-Stand desk,” says Mitchell Cohen, Dealer Principal, Workspace Group (WSG). “Nearly all of our installations over the past year include this desk as part of the furniture mix.
“When you add this technology to an already popular item, it only enhances the value-added features we can offer our clients.”
The Live OS sensor can instruct the Sit-to-Stand Desk to rise or lower at certain intervals throughout the workday – according to the employees’ set preferences.
Working together, the app and furnishings remind people when it’s time to change postures, helping them achieve goals for increasing activity. Sensors that are bought individually cost $100, and the corresponding software subscription runs $36 per desk per year. The software for sit-to-stand desks with Live OS sensors costs $60 per year. The subscription prices lower with volume and longer contracts.
“Regular movement can make people more engaged, efficient and productive at work,” says Mitchell Cohen.
“The bottom line is your furniture is now talking to each other; and that’s a concept right in line with our tech savvy clients.”
